This morning my yoga teacher played Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World" during shivasana. It made me think of that slide show of pictures from the February 15, 2003 anti-war demonstrations, set to "What a Wonderful World," that flew around the internet just before the war began. Remember? There were marches and rallies all over the world: millions of people in London and Rome, hundreds of thousands in New York, hundreds even at our little weekly vigil in Red State Capital City.
It would be easy to look back and think only that we were deluded, useless, thwarted. But I'd rather think about how many people cared that day, how many people knew this war was wrong long before it started, and how many more people have realized it since. I'd rather imagine what all those people could accomplish together, and hope that someday they will.
