Butterfly
I must announce--and I know this is of interest only to grandparents, aunts, and Jenny, though the rest of you are welcome to cheer loudly--that E did butterfly at practice last night. (She is looking over my shoulder and proudly declares, "Eight lengths!") (Actually, she said "Eight laps!" and then we had a little google-solved debate over laps and lengths, revised her declaration, and she now proclaims proudly, "Which could be four laps!") (Shall I continue to quote her? "Four laps! Eight lengths!") (And now she has returned to her french toast.)

Many, many congratulations to E! (I still kind of think laps and lengths are synonymous.) I made a decent stab at it today at my lesson, but only with fins on and alternating lengths of breast and butterfly to try and hold on to the rhythm! So please tell E. that she is a genius of swimming and also lucky to have a sensible mother who sees how useful a skill swimming will be later in life when she will perhaps want to do triathlons...
Butterfly is like the black belt of swimming. At least to me. I can, at best, think about faking it, but basically it's just an unattainable dream.
Congratulations to E!
Great stuff, as a former swimmer it was great to read. Thanks.
