M has been invited to her first bat mitzvah on her own--her friend's big sister. Several of her friends at other synagogues already have their dates--for spring 2009. Hers should be May 2009, but I think we don't get our dates till the fall. Her cousin's is in June, there are two friends at our synagogue who are up next year, and then the deluge. I remember the years when K and D's kids went to bar mitzvahs every weekend. I don't think we will have quite so many, but there will certainly be a lot.
I'm not quite sure how we got here.

This whole thing just freaks me out. I'm hoping somebody will take us by the hand and explain it to us like the Jewish n00bs we are.
Laughing at Dawn's comment. Seriously, there were maybe 10 Jewish kids my age in a 20-mile radius where I grew up. I am so not prepared to face the bar mitzvah years in a place with an actual Jewish community.
